One of my personal goals has been to become an authority on out of the way places in North Queensland. Along the way I published a book – “The Travellers Guide to North Queensland”. This book through 4 editions over almost 20 years reveals how to reach innumerable destinations in the Cairns region (from Ingham to Cooktown) — whether it be by bushwalking or four wheel drive – where you can immerse yourself in a wilderness often remote from regular human visitation. I will be regularly updating its content and the revised pages can be found in the Chapter Amendments section.
My many travels have led me through areas of almost untouched landscapes and have enabled me to collate one of comprehensive photographic image libraries of the Cairns and North Queensland region. You are invited to browse through this site to view a small selection of my work. All images are available for purchase via this site, along with copies of my book.
I can now directly share my experiences and discoveries through a personalised photo-touring opportunity for visitors to and residents of the Cairns region. I have put together some half and full-day tours to some of those places I am consistently inspired by and regularly return with wonderful images. Choose your destination. Golden beaches, clear, cascading rainforest streams or sunsets over spectacular scenes of wilderness. Sometimes all in the one day! These tours are for the benefit of the photographer in us. Time is spent where it is needed and rarely are 2 tours identical. I try and personalise each trip for my daily passengers. Have a browse through what I have on offer and what might excite you. I have been living in North Queensland since 1984 and visiting it regularly since 1975. One of my personal goals has been to become an authority on the out of the way places – the true North Queensland that many visitors hear about and come to see but rarely find anything more than the well worn tourist trails.
While this satisfies many, there are vast, almost untouched landscapes providing innumerable destinations where it is easy to feel immersed in a wilderness remote from regular human visitation. Hand in hand with this goal has been the objective of establishing the best wilderness image library of this part of the world.
I have resisted the temptation of travelling further afield as many photographers do once they feel the need for further inspiration. I believe in sticking with the territory you know – and to get to know it better. After many years I am still finding fascinating places and great sites for photography. The variety of landscapes within a short drive from my home base in Kuranda is enormous and within the pages of my book, images on display or perhaps a “phototour”, I hope I can give you an appreciation of this country. Join me in a tour around some of the less visited but extremely photogenic sites around the tropical north.
Tours are varied to suit the customer and the prevailing weather and conditions, but foremost is the goal of finding some remarkable sites and returning with wonderful pictures.
Tours can be half day, full day or one or more nights away to capture the golden hours of dusk and dawn. I’m there to provide a window into the true north Queensland and to assist you where I can to get the best out of every photo opportunity.
I cater for the experienced enthusiast/professional or if you are new to outdoors photography I’d like to help you get the best out of your camera and the wonderful subjects presented. Maximum number is 4 adults so each trip is flexible to suit your needs. No rushing from place to place and packing up unless you are satisfied.
Costs are all inclusive except where indicated.
I can collect you from anywhere in Cairns to the northern beaches (up to Palm Cove) and departure times depend a bit on your location—but generally around 8.00am. I plan to break up the journeys with regular stops so we don’t spend too much time in the car, however most of our destinations are at least 1 hour drive from Cairns
I don’t have a schedule that takes you to specific places on specific days. My tours can have a flexibility to suit your needs. You let me know what tour sounds appealing and when you are available. If you are travelling singly I can establish a “schedule” around your availability (time permitting) and see if others are interested on the day to bring the price down. Otherwise the half or full day fee will have to apply. (see fees and charges).
All these tours are designed to be only mildly strenuous so you don’t need to feel limited in what photo equipment you bring. For the more adventurous and fit I have some spectacular walks into remote country that can be customized to your time, fitness and photographic objectives.
Overnight tours can be arranged and require a degree of self-sufficiency and preparedness to “rough it” a bit, however, all meals and equipment can be provided—just remember your camera(s), batteries and cards! Oh, and a tripod if you have one.
Half Day Sunset Tour
Afternoon tour of Davies Creek National Park. Spend time at the falls and picturesque creek side scenery before a short walk to one of my favourite lookouts.

Explore one of my favourite beaches in North Queensland. Half day tour to the beach for a low tide or a leisurely full day to explore further into surrounding wetlands.
Full Day Cloud Forest Tour

If you have any physical constraints or dietary issues please advise us after booking. Snacks, refreshments and light lunches are provided except where indicated. Sturdy shoes are recommended.
A moderate degree of fitness is preferred for most tours though I can adapt most itineraries to suit individuals with mobility issues. Please contact us directly via email or telephone to discuss opportunities.

Try as I may I can’t guarantee the weather. I will run a tour regardless of the weather short of an impending cyclone or truly settled in wet season as rainforest photography is often enhanced by a little inclement weather. I can understand others lack of fondness for rain and under poor conditions refunds can be made (less booking fee) if I am advised 24 hours or more prior to departure. Personally, I am the eternal optimist when it comes to weather!
Note: Not all advertised localities may be visited on every tour. Also, while every possible care will be taken, guests are expected to manage their own safety and that of others on the tour and advise the operator if they have any concerns.
